In a moment that marks a turning point for football in Paris, Paris FC secured promotion to Ligue 1 after a 1-1 draw against Martigues — ending a 46-year absence from the top flight. The result not only elevates the club, but also means that for the first time in 35 years, two Paris-based clubs — Paris FC and the city’s established powerhouse Paris Saint-Germain — will compete in France’s premier division simultaneously.
The achievement comes at a time of significant off-the-pitch transformation for the club. Earlier in the season the family of billionaire Bernard Arnault became majority shareholders via their holding company. Alongside this takeover came a clear ambition — Paris FC aims not just for promotion, but for establishing itself as a long-term top-flight force. This strategic shift is underscored by a planned move to the modern Stade Jean-Bouin (near PSG’s Parc des Princes) starting next season.
On the field, the club’s final stretch of the season reflects a renewed focus and momentum. After a mid-season dip, Paris FC found a rich vein of form: eight wins in their last ten matches laid the foundation for this promotion push. The opening of their new home also bore fruit: in their first match at Jean-Bouin they recorded a 3-2 victory over FC Metz in front of over 17,000 fans, setting a tone of excitement and ambition.
Yet, amid optimism, the club faces tangible challenges. Transitioning from a long period outside the top tier into the step-up of Ligue 1 demands consolidation — stronger squad depth, sustainable finances, and the management of heightened expectations in the capital market. The new ownership has emphasised prudent investment and development of regional talent — rather than star signings — signalling that Paris FC wants to build for longevity.
In sum, Paris FC’s promotion marks not only a sporting triumph, but a potential redefining moment for Parisian football. The roadmap ahead combines infrastructure, investment, and regional youth cultivation.
